The DVS is Member of the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB). This offers the DVS the possibility to realize there interests and social engagements of Science in terms of organized sport (Associations with Special Tasks / VmbA). Furthermore the DVS cooperates with the "Trainerakademie Köln" (Coach College Cologne) of the DOSB.

The Federal Institute of Sport Science („Bundesinstitut für Sportwissenschaft“, BISp) supports the DVS conferences organizationally and financially. The BISp is the most important partner of the DVS with regard  to sport science research.

Since several years the DVS has contacts to the Commission of Sport of the German Federal Parliament, the Commission of Sport of the Conference of Ministers of Education (KMK) and to the Conference of Sport Ministers (SMK). The Federal States support the DVS financially for organizing the biannual conference of sport science and also the other DVS conferences.

The German Association of Sport Psychology (ASP) fulfils the function of the DVS section Sport Psychology as part of a cooperation agreement. In a similiar vein, the German Association for Sports Medicine and Prevention (DGSP) and the Sport Economics Workshop (AK Sportökonomie) are sections of the DVS.

In addition, the DVS cooperates with the Association of faculties of Sport, with the German Association of teachers of physical education (DSLV) as well as with the German College Sports Federation (ADH).

The DVS is a member of the Society of Didactics (GFD), the German Association of Sports Museums, archives, sports and sports collections (DAGS), in the German Network for Health Services Research (DNVF), Federal Association for Prevention and Health Promotion (BVPG) and in the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB).

The DVS cooperates also with the Austrian Sports Scientific Society (ÖSG), the Sports Science Society of Switzerland (SGS), the European Network for Sport Science, Education and Employment (ENSSEE), the European College of Sport Science (ECSS). There exist cooperation agreements with Japanese Society of Physical Education, Health and Sport Science (JSPEHSS).

The DVS is member of the European Association for the Philosophy of Sport (EAPS) and of the International Council of Sport Science and Physical Education (ICSSPE).
