This book deals with the cognitive processes necessary for the control of complex human movements. The core aspect of this work is the functional interplay between action representation, action perception, and action control.
Four experimental studies are presented here referring to the role of motor expertise for perceiving and anticipating complex movements. Specifically, even unconscious processing mechanisms are investigated. For all studies, the priming paradigm, which is an established paradigm in experimental psychology, is used. This experimental approach has only rarely been used in sport psychology until now. The research presented here thus might give some new insight into the perceptual processing of action-related body postures.
Dr. Iris Güldenpenning (1981) studied sport science with the minor subject educational science and economic and social psychology at the University of Göttingen (2000-2005). Afterwards, she did her PhD until 2014 at the University of Bielefeld in the “Neurocognition and Action – Biomechanics” Research Group. Since 2014, she works at the Sport Psychology Unit at the University of Paderborn.
