German Journal of Exercise and Sport Research

Football. A multidisciplinary perspective on the world’s most popular sport.
(CfP German Journal of Exercise and Sport Research, FIFA World Cup 2018)

Next year, the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia will thrill hundreds of thousands of supporters and fans from all around the world. In anticipation of this event the German Journal of Exercise and Sport Research, internationally relaunched in 2017 and the successor to Germany’s leading scientific journal in sport science, ‘Sportwissenschaft’ (1971-2016), invites authors to contribute articles to the thematic issue “Football. A multidisciplinary perspective on the world’s most famous sport,” which will be published in May 2018 (Vol. 48, Issue 2).

This thematic issue will include a broad range of perspectives on football from science and medicine (e.g. physiology and sports medicine, training and exercise science, biomechanics), the humanities (e.g. sport philosophy, sport history, physical education) as well as social and behavioral academic disciplines (e.g. sport sociology, sport psychology, sport management) to arrive at a multifaceted description and theoretical understanding of the world’s most popular sport. Six senior action editors (Prof Weigelt and Prof Brand, behavioral sciences; Prof Groeben, humanities and education; Prof Kaiser-Jovy, social sciences and economics; Prof Ferrauti and Prof VoelckerRehage, science and medicine) will provide expert support for all submitted papers. We ask authors to submit original articles (main articles, brief reports, reviews), academic essays, commentaries or discussion papers on topics related to the game of football. All papers will undergo rigorous double-blind peer reviewing and all accepted articles will be published online-first on the Springer Medicine electronic publishing platform before the 2018 FIFA World Cup (fee-based optional open access publication is possible upon author request).

We ask authors to submit their papers using the journal’s electronic Editorial Manager system (www.editorialmanager.com/spwi) before 31 December 2017. Instructions for authors are available at the journal’s homepage https://link.springer.com/journal/12662. Only articles written in English will be eligible for peer-reviewing.

Join our journey on the road to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and present your work in Germany’s most upcoming academic journal on sport and exercise research with Springer International Publishing.
